Why Do You Trust God?

The UnPerfected Life Podcast – Episode Recap & Devotional Thoughts

Faith. Trust. Hope. Sometimes these words feel big and abstract, and other times, they feel personal, immediate, and necessary. In this week’s episode of The UnPerfected Life Podcast, I want to dive into the question: “Why do we trust God?”, not just in theory, but in the messy, real parts of life.

Trust is Built, Not Instant

Trusting God doesn’t usually happen all at once. It’s built piece by piece, moment by moment, prayer by prayer, trial by trial. Looking back over my life, I can see a trail of God’s fingerprints, evidence of His provision, peace, and presence.

Psalm 9:10 says: “Those who know Your name trust in You, for You, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek You.”

This verse reminds me that trust in God isn’t just a nice idea. It’s practical. It’s lived. And Scripture is full of stories showing that God never abandons those who seek Him.

Biblical Examples of Trust

One of my favorite stories is from 1 Kings 17, when Elijah meets the widow of Zarephath during a severe drought. She only has a handful of flour and a little oil, but Elijah tells her to make him a small loaf first, promising that God will provide.

She trusted, and every day her supplies never ran out, enough for her family, enough for Elijah, and enough to show God’s faithful provision.

I think about moments in my own life when God provided in ways I couldn’t have planned. Maybe it was an unexpected check in the mail, a meal when I didn’t know how I would feed my family, or a kind word at exactly the right time. Those moments remind me that God is faithful.

Philippians 4:19 reinforces this truth: “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.”

Trust in Life’s Storms

Trusting God isn’t only about provision; it’s also about peace in the storm. I’ve had seasons where I felt helpless; the loss of my mom, my husband’s serious illness, times when the future seemed uncertain. And yet, God showed up.

Psalm 34:18 says: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Just like Jesus calmed the storm on the Sea of Galilee in Mark 4:35–41, God meets me with His presence and peace, even when the situation doesn’t change right away.

Isaiah 41:10 reminds me: “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Faith Requires Action

Trusting God also means stepping forward in obedience, even when it doesn’t make sense in the moment. In Joshua 3, the Israelites faced a flooded Jordan River, but God told them to walk straight into the water. Only then did the river stop and allow them to cross safely.

Sometimes, God’s provision comes after our obedience, not before. Taking the first step, small or bold, is an act of faith that allows His miracles to unfold.

Trust Is Built on God’s Faithfulness

I want to remember this: these stories aren’t about my strength. They’re about God’s faithfulness. Every act of provision, peace, healing, and guidance adds another “brick” to the foundation of trust in my heart. When the next storm comes, I can look back and say: “He was faithful then, and He will be faithful now.”

Reflection Questions

  • Where has God already proven Himself faithful in your life?
  • Where might He be asking you to trust Him now, even before you see the outcome?

Take some time this week to pause, reflect, and remember God’s past faithfulness. He sees you, He’s with you, and He will never leave you.

Bible Verses About Trust

Here are a few verses I love to lean on when I feel uncertain or afraid:

  • Proverbs 3:5–6 – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
  • Psalm 56:3 – “When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.”
  • Jeremiah 17:7 – “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him.”
  • Romans 15:13 – “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

These verses remind me that trust isn’t passive, it’s a daily choice to rely on God’s promises.

Closing Thought

Trusting God isn’t about having perfect faith, it’s about choosing to rely on a God who is perfect. Whether your faith feels big or small, God is faithful. He meets us in the mess, in the storms, and in the waiting.

Remember, God’s Strength is made perfect in your weakness, so boast in it.
